New setting for lessons at Grange Hill

Mersey Television have recently won a three year contract to produce the BBC One stalwart 'Grange Hill'.
The long-running programme, which is centred around the lives of pupils at an inner city comprehensive school, was transferred from Elstree Studios in London to Liverpool. The series was filmed in a purpose built studio at the company’s Childwall headquarters.
Although the series is still set in London, all of the scenes were shot in Liverpool - and the city council’s Film Office helped production staff source locations for outdoor shots.
Cast and crew spent time out on location in Norris Green, and for added realism Croxteth Comprehensive, Holly Lodge and Ashfield Schools were used to film several scenes.
Liverpool Councillor Warren Bradley, Executive member for Leisure and Culture, said: “It is a great coup for Liverpool to become home to one of the most critically acclaimed children’s television series. Grange Hill is a programme that was essential viewing for me and many other people of my generation.
“It shows once again that we have a thriving media industry in the city which is highly regarded by television bosses.”
It was Mersey TV boss Phil Redmond himself who created the series 25 years ago. At the time it hit the headlines with groundbreaking story lines, which highlighted social problems such as drug and alcohol abuse, racism, teenage pregnancy and bullying.
