MULLAN TO DIRECT SECOND FEATURE FILM

GLASGOW Film Office have announced that Peter Mullan is to direct his second feature film called ‘Magdalene Laundries’.
The film was awarded Lottery funding last September. Mullan describes the story as “a powerful and uncompromising look at the cruelty of the Magdalene asylums and the hypocrisy of the church which protects them”.
The film, which is being produced by Antonine Films, is the second feature to be written and directed by Mullan, the first being the highly acclaimed ‘Orphans’ in 1998. He has also recently completed a low budget horror in the US called Session 9, written and directed by Brad Anderson.
Mullan is currently receiving critical acclaim for his performance in Michael Winterbottom’s latest offering ‘The Claim’, which is in competition at this year’s Berlin Film Festival and is also playing at the Glasgow Film Theatre. (CD)
