S4C LAUNCH NEW COMPETITION FOR WELSH SCREENWRITERS

S4C have launched a new competition for Welsh screenwriters with a £500 cash prize on offer to four winning entrants, plus the possibility of their work being broadcast on the channel.
The S4C Film and Drama Screenwriting competition - Cystadleuaeth Sgriptio Ffilm/Drama S4C -was launched on November 27 at Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff, in an event organised as part of the International Film Festival of Wales.
The competition is being endorsed by actor Rhys Ifans, who along with university lecturer Hazel Walford Davies and three members of S4C's commissioning team, Meirion Davies, Huw Chiswell and Angharad Jones, make up the adjudicating panel.
The panel is looking for Welsh-language screenplays between 10 and 30 minutes in duration across all genres, with animation and silent films being considered as well as TV plays or films. The four best submissions may then be adapted for broadcasting on S4C Digital as part of S4C's 20th anniversary celebrations next year.
All screenplays must be submitted in the Welsh language, but it has been stressed that non-Welsh speakers are welcome to enter as long as they get their work translated into Welsh before submission.
Screenwriters will have to get cracking in order to catch the deadline - as all submissions must be made by January 31.
For more details, write to Cystadleuaeth Sgriptio Ffilm/Ddrama S4C, c/o Yr Adran Rhaglenni, S4C, Parc Ty Glas, Llanisen, Caerdydd CF14 5DU. All entrants must enter their submission under a pseudonym. (CD)
