SQU CHOOSE JVC D-9 FOR THEIR NEW STUDIO

SULTAN Qaboos University (SQU), the university in Oman, have chosen the JVC D-9 digital video format for their new studio.
The installation includes three JVC KY-D29E digital processing cameras and studio recording on BR-D860E D-9 recorders. Linear editing is provided by a mixed format suite mastering to D-9, and non-linear editing by a Fast Silver fed by D-9 recorders and two DY-90 D-9 camcorders.
Suleiman Al-Rawahi, former chief of production and currently working as a Chief of Projects and Resources at the SQU Centre for Educational Technology, said "When we wrote the tender specifications we had already decided that it was vital for us to follow the EBU recommendations in selecting a 4:2:2 50Mbp/s recording format. We were concerned however that this should be a half-inch tape system, as our equipment needs to be extremely robust and reliable. It was clear that D-9 offered the most cost-effective route to these criteria, and we are delighted with the results."
The Centre for Educational Technology uses their advanced video, audio, graphics, photography and multimedia facilities to produce scientific and educational material for the academic departments within SQU as well as to the outside community. This major upgrade of their production systems was part of a project to move to digital technology at the highest international standards. (CD)
