Ensuring Signal Integrity, No Matter How Complicated The Shoot

News Image
Without proper checks, utilising long runs of coaxial cable may risk the incoming signal deteriorating to the point where it can no longer be properly detected by the receiving equipment in the outside broadcast unit or studio.

Where the shoot requires complex logistics & rigging, running cables only to find that they do not deliver the required signal performance can be time consuming and costly, meaning that tried & tested solutions such as the Cable Clone from LEN, are a mainstay of many a production teams kit.

LEN's Cable Clone range simulates the effects of a defined 3G or HD cable length on SDI, serial digital signals, eliminating the need to run cables to assess the filtering effect of the cable, and to confirm that the configuration will provide a reliable signal of sufficient quality for a successful shoot. Each Cable Clone unit is housed in a tubular GRP enclosure with a female BNC 75 ohm connector on each end and emulates a specific length of Belden 1694A cable, providing known accurate loss for repeatable performance.
LEN offer 4 x 3G and 4 x HD Cable Clone devices to simulate 3G or HD signals on 10 Metre, 20 Metre, 40 Metre and 80 Metre cables, respectively.

Both the 3G and the HD Cable Clones are available singularly or as a popular boxed 3G or HD set, which includes a 10M, 20M, 40M and 80M Cable Clone, as well as a pouch for cables and adaptors. Where a longer run of 3G or HD cable would be required, for the job, then multiple Cable Clones, may be cascaded to emulate the longer cable run.

Each pocket-sized, lightweight Cable Clone device operates passively, without the need for a dedicated standalone power supply and the product has been a firm favourite of technicians and engineers since it was first invented by Founder and Managing Director of Crewe, England based LEN, Clive Baty, back in 1994.

LEN are internationally recognised as signal enhancement specialists and are regularly called upon by national broadcasters and independent production companies from around the world seeking novel passive solutions that will improve their output and service, as they implement and adapt to the latest technologies. including 4K/12G UHD-SDI.

LEN's broad portfolio of signal enhancement solutions also include 3G / HD / SDI Galvanic Isolators, 3G, HD, SDI, 4K/12G UHD-SDI and ASI format splitters, ceramic filters & diplexers, RF filters, SD, HD and 3G SDI relays, hum eliminators, power injectors & strippers, and video isolation transformers.

With extensive design and manufacture experience and a library of historic designs, going back over 25 years, LEN is also the first port of call for operators of legacy systems, seeking solutions to replace damaged or life-expired filter and network parts, where these are no longer available from the OEM.
