Filming Begins On 'Hospital People'

News Image
Filming has commenced on a new comedy series for BBC One.

Produced by Roughcut Television, Hospital People is set in the fictional Brimlington Hospital and follows the lives of a number of characters connected to the hospital. Each character is played by writer and comedian Tom Binns.

The 6x30' series will also feature a number of guest stars including Alex MacQueen, James Fleet, Mark Williams, Russell Brand, Sally Phillips and Sian Gibson.

While hospitals are mainly about the medical staff and the patients, Hospital People focuses on the lives of the other inhabitants – such as Brimlington Hospital's inept DJ Ivan Brackenbury, ambitious manager Susan Mitchell, porter and spirit medium Ian D Montfort and overenthusiastic chaplain Father Kenny Mercer. Series regulars include Amit Shah as Sunny, Susan's assistant; Janine Duvitski as Mrs Leydon, the Chapel assistant, and Mandeep Dhillon as Shaz, Ivan's trainee producer.

Alex Moody, Commissioning Editor, BBC Comedy, said: "We could not be more excited about welcoming Tom Binns' extraordinary collection of Hospital People to BBC One."

Ash Atalla, Managing Director, Roughcut TV, added: "We're really happy about our first BBC One series commission. Roughcut TV is all grown up and delighted to be making a show for Britain's most prestigious channel. Hospital People is a testament to our talented team. And now we go to work to make this series the very best it can be."

Hospital People is written by Tom Binns, Matt Morgan and Paul Doolan. Commissioned by Alex Moody for the BBC it is the first series for BBC One from Rough Cut Television. The series will be executive produced by Ash Atalla and Jon Petrie, produced by Emma Lawson and directed by Paul Murphy. The series is due to air later this year.
