DAR SUPPLY ‘TRIGGER’ RELAY SYSTEMS TO WDR

DIGITAL Audio Research (DAR) from Manchester have supplied seven of its brand new Trigger audio replay systems to German broadcaster WDR in Cologne, Germany.
Designed as a sound effects play-out solution for live television productions, and for radio, theatre and live events, Trigger is especially suitable for game shows. WDR has had the systems installed in a fleet of outside-broadcast trucks and placed as live event play-out equipment.
Flexibility was a primary consideration of WDR, with the broadcaster initially evaluating DAR’s TheatrePlay system some 14 months ago, and coming back to DAR’s regional distributor Mega Audio with a wish-list of additional facilities and functionality.
The DAR team produced the Trigger system from a list of key operating considerations submitted by WDR and, in doing so, created a new standalone product:
“The working relationship between DAR and WDR contributed to creating a highly flexible result,” said Mega Audio’s Burkard Elsner.
Trigger is an easy-to-use self-contained disk-based system that can record, edit, assign and replay mono and stereo audio segments from within a single-screen display. Based on the proven OMR8 platform and technology, Trigger enables the instant replay of audio segments from both sequenced playlists and events assigned to Trigger keys.
With WDR’s dual mode systems, engineers can mix and match depending on the project in hand. For example, they can access 24 tracks for live recording/playback, with the OMR8s stacked up as a SAM scaleable audio multi-track system, or they can have a 16-track SAM recording system, with another machine dedicated as a Trigger. The result is a flexible, multi-purpose system that enhances WDR’s production capabilities. (GMcG)
