RTS North West Announces Awards Shortlist

The Royal Television Society (RTS) North West Centre has announced the shortlist for its annual awards.

The RTS North West Awards recognise the wealth of creative talent in the region and honour the work of production teams, writers, presenters and actors across genres including comedy, drama, factual, current affairs and kids.

A raft of household names are up for awards this year, including Alison Steadman who is nominated in the Comedy Performance category for BBC One’s Broken Biscuits. She’ll battle it out with Harry Hepple (Boy Meets Girl), Adil Ray (Citizen Khan) and Rebecca Root (Boy Meets Girl).

In the Best Male Performance in a Single Drama or Drama Series category, Tim Roth is nominated for his performance in Reg up against Kevin Doyle (Happy Valley), Kascion Franklin (Danny and the Human Zoo) and Johnny Harris (From Darkness). In the Female category, Anne-Marie Duff is nominated for From Darkness alongside Sarah Lancashire (Happy Valley), Anna Maxwell Martin (Reg) and Lesley Sharp (Scott and Bailey).

Coronation Street stars Alex Bain, Jane Danson, Tina O’Brien and Jack P Shepherd will compete for the prize in the Best Performance in a Continuing Drama category.

Production companies and facilities nominated for awards this year include, Blakeway North; Dock 10 Limited; Flix Facilities; Jellylegs Productions; LA Productions; Lime Pictures; Mackinnon and Saunders; Nine Lives Media; Platform Productions; Ragdoll Productions; Red Production Company; Saffron Cherry TV; Shine North; Shiver; Title Role Productions; and True North. Broadcasters in the region are also well represented with nominations for BBC Children’s, BBC Comedy BBC Current Affairs Salford, BBC Drama Production North, BBC Entertainment Production North, BBC Learning, BBC North West Tonight, BBC Religion and Ethics, BBC Sport, CITV, ITV News Granada Reports, ITV Studios, MUTV and That’s TV.

The winners will be announced at an Awards Ceremony, hosted by Les Dennis, on Saturday 12 November at Hilton Deansgate, Manchester.
