Elstree Studios: A Success Story

Elstree Studios is now a success story rescued from the wrecking ball in 1996.

This year, Elstree celebrates its 90th year birthday along with Her Majesty The Queen, so it is ironic that the new series 'The Crown' is based at Elstree Studios.

Teddington Studios would have been celebrating its 102nd birthday this year. It is unfortunately now going to be turned into a block of luxury flats. It was once the home of former ITV Company Thames Television which produced shows such as, Morecombe and Wise, Birds Of A Feather, and the list goes on...

Another famous studio site is the BBC television centre. Of the original eight studios, only three studios will remain. The rest will be residential. Note the selling strap line... 'The home of British Broadcasting can now be your home too.'

In eight months' time, another famous London Studio will be closing; Fountain Studio, which has been the home to successful shows The X Factor and Britain's Got Talent.

The loss of production space could have a dramatic effect on our Film and TV industry going forward and the monies earned directly and indirectly from it.

At Elstree Studios, we are building a new stage. We know that the secret of a successful film and TV industry is to have an infrastructure which is quite complex, that makes the creative production process pain free and economically competitive.

Let us make sure that we do not permanently damage our successful and growing industry by destroying part of our infrastructure. We need more studios, well thought out strategy for their location and design and supportive government strategy.
