Sky Atlantic Announce New Comedy Series Sick Note

News Image
Sky Atlantic has announced a new comedy series, Sick Note, starring Rupert Grint (Harry Potter Series), Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead) and the Golden Globe award-winning Don Johnson.

Produced by British production company King Bert, which was founded by renowned producer Jo Sargent and writer performers David Walliams and Miranda Hart, Sick Note is created and written by Nat Saunders and James Serafinowicz. Set to air in early 2017, the series will be directed by the BAFTA winning Matt Lipsey (Little Britain, Psychoville).

Sick Note is the story of Daniel Glass (Rupert Grint), a compulsive liar, who's stuck in a failing relationship and a dead end job, where he is under the thumb of his irrepressible boss Kenny West (Don Johnson).

And just when things couldn't get any worse, he's diagnosed with esophageal cancer. However, everyone starts to treat him better because of his diagnosis and suddenly Daniel finds he has a new lust for life. But then he finds out he was misdiagnosed by the most incompetent oncologist on Earth, Dr Ian Glennis (Nick Frost) and that's when Daniel has a big decision to make: come clean and go back to his old rubbish life, or keep this new information a secret and pretend to be ill.

He decides to go for the latter but very quickly the lie spirals out of control and both Daniel and Dr Glennis have to spend all of their waking lives trying to prevent the truth from getting out.

Set to air on Sky Atlantic in early 2017 the entire series will be made available on Sky Box Sets from premiere.

Commenting on the news Zai Bennett, Director of Sky Atlantic said: "We're delighted to welcome the stellar cast of Rupert Grint, Nick Frost and Don Johnson to Sky Atlantic in this smart new original comedy. They join a high end stable of US hits like Veep and Silicon Valley alongside great original comedy from the likes of Julia Davis and Steve Coogan."

Jo Sargent, Managing Director at King Bert said: "We are thrilled that we are making Sick Note for Sky Atlantic. Nat and James have done a brilliant job creating an enticing and funny hook and I look forward to our stellar cast bringing their hilarious scripts to life."

Sick Note has been commissioned by Jon Mountague, Sky's Head of Comedy. The series is executive produced by Jo Sargent (Absolutely Fabulous, Miranda) and produced by Sarah Fraser (Walliams & Friend).

International distribution for the series will be handled by Sky Vision. Principal photography is now underway.
