Las Vegas Highlights

Once again NAB in Las Vegas delivered a wealth of new developments and not least those from the companies represented by UK distributor Aspen Media.

At the Jünger Audio booth, the emphasis was on reducing costs in Live production. Jünger demonstrated how this could be achieved by employing auto levelling, auto loudness control, auto upmix, adaptive EQ and audio-over-IP in its D*AP range while maintaining high quality, consistent and coherent audio whatever the operator skills and manning levels.

On the Salzbrenner media booth, much interest was shown in NIO xcel, its new range of professional Dante interfaces. Two of the units provide I/O for AES3 and another has 8 microphone inputs with 4 splits, 8 line inputs and 4 line outputs. Rugged in design and built for the rough and tumble of mobile applications, the NIO xcel series is perfect for Broadcast derigs, sound reinforcement, installation and studio facilities.

Control and interface specialists JLCooper introduced Proton an economical, compact broadcast switcher panel for controlling BlackMagic ATEM in Live production. ATEM switches SD, HD or Ultra HD video from a wide range of video sources including cameras, computers and disk recorders. Proton combines fast switching with ease of use and significant savings.

Visitors from Broadcast, Live and Studio environments found the versatile MONTONE.42 MADI-to-Ravenna bridge from DirectOut of particular interest. MONTONE.42 supports 32 Ravenna and AES67 compliant streams and the internal routing matrix handles 256 network and 256 MADI I/O channels. There are four MADI ports with a wide choice of physical interface and two gigabit network ports.
