DGP complete work on top animation film

DGP Digital, a Soho-based post-production company, have announced that they have completed production on a limited edition two-disk box set DVD of ‘Akira’ – the most successful Japanese animé film ever made.
The DVD, produced by Palm Pictures, will be released on March 18.
The DGP team were heavily involved in the design of the DVD, basing the menus around the apocalyptic action in the movie. The menus were designed and built in After Effects by Bert Dufour, then transcoded to Sonic Solutions’ authoring system.
The result is an innovative disk containing many extras, including a ‘Make your Own Akira Trailer’ feature. Stan Zambon authored the disk to allow the viewer to pick and play video files in different orders, to create unique trailers for the film. Other extras include a ‘making of’ featurette, numerous ‘Easter Egg’ hidden features, a hyperlink to the Akira website and a multiple choice quiz which, if correctly solved, will give the viewer a code to unlock a secret region on the website.
"DGP is truly a high-tech, low-tension company. It has taken our demanding brief in its stride to design and author DVD titles to a standard beyond our expectation and on time," a Palm Pictures spokesman said.
Written and directed by Katsuhiro Otomo, ‘Akira’ tells the story of a post-apocalyptic era that combines action adventure and paranormal activity. The film has been digitally re-mastered with Dolby 5.1 audio, and includes both an English and a Japanese soundtrack.
