SGL And Marquis Bring Parking For FlashNet To NAB

News Image
SGL and Marquis have partnered for a number of years and the highly successful integration between SGL FlashNet and Marquis' Avid storage management solution 'Parking', makes archiving and access to stored media a simple task. By Lee Sheppard, Director of Product Management.

At NAB 2016, visitors to the SGL booth (SL5306) will be able to watch full demonstrations of the SGL FlashNet and Marquis Parking integration and will gain insight into the full features and benefits that this partnership brings.

SGL's highly scalable archiving solution FlashNet enables MAM, PAM and automation systems to integrate to all the major storage management solutions whether on tape, disk, cloud or optical disk. This includes a rich integration with Avid Interplay | Production and Avid Interplay | MAM. This integration with Avid solutions has been further enhanced with Project Parking from Marquis.

SGL and Marquis provide a rich solution for archiving and restoring whole Avid projects via FlashNet. Parking is the only independent application that understands the relationship between Avid Media Composer bins and Avid media. It monitors how media storage is used, sends timely reports on usage, illustrates storage usage over time and facilitates the transfer, archive or deletion of media.

Parking provides SGL FlashNet users with a fast and cost-effective archive and restore process, by creating complete copies of any Avid project and media onto the FlashNet storage. Parking for FlashNet allows facilities to archive and restore whole projects: archive all bins, sequences and media files. By providing a simple vehicle for archiving all media associated with a project, Parking enables Avid operators to archive complete projects safely, quickly and easily between systems within the same facility or across multiple sites.

The combination of Parking and FlashNet offers an economical answer to archiving and storing file-based content, freeing-up expensive shared storage by creating portable projects that can be stored off-line. Storage management and content retrieval is a key challenge for broadcast facilities and Parking for FlashNet gives broadcasters the tools to improve the efficient use of edit storage, improve the reliability and speed of archiving and reduce capital expenditure on additional edit storage. Parked projects also provide FlashNet users with significant advantages for disaster recovery procedures, business continuity and inter-site workflows.

The companies also provide a simple upgrade path to add storage analysis features to Project Parking. The Analysis tool provides the ability to analyse edit storage, identify duplicate media and clear out unused media. Users can also transfer projects between different tiers of storage or different locations.

This demonstration highlights SGL's strong partner support and the company will be hosting additional demonstrations on its booth throughout the show. This will include a demo highlighting the Avid® Interplay® Web Services plug-in with Partial File Restore. Powered by Glookast, Partial File Restore is a unique feature of the Avid® Interplay® Web Services solution developed by SGL. SGL's support for Avid® Interplay® Web Services means that customers can use the archive capabilities that they currently require, but can deploy Avid Interplay | Archive at any time in the future without the need to re-archive any content. The partial file restore feature enables operators to easily select and restore elements of a clip directly from the archive in high resolution. Prior to this, partial file restore functionality could only be achieved using the full Avid Interplay | Archive system.

SGL will also be showcasing new FlashNet Infinity, which will be incrementally rolled out over the next 12 months. This new iteration of FlashNet provides customers with an elegant dashboard that further simplifies archive procedures with sophisticated tools for archive and restore functionality, system health, monitoring, analysis and more.

SGL FlashNet comprises three base modules, which can run on a single server to provide cost-efficient archive operations in a compact installation. Alternatively, it can be installed or extended across multiple nodes to form a cluster that provides automatic failover and high levels of data throughput. SGL FlashNet's architecture provides unrivalled resilience: in the event that a node fails, its duties are automatically taken over by other cluster members, without interruption to archive operations and without requirement for manual intervention.

Demonstrations of the SGL FlashNet and Marquis Parking integration will take place on the SGL booth SL5306 at NAB 2016 at 1pm on Tuesday 19th April 2016 and 3pm on Wednesday 20th April 2016.
