Globo Selects Elemental's VOD Service

Elemental Technologies has announced that its video processing is being used as the core video-on-demand (VOD) and live processing engine by Globo for its Globo Play over-the-top (OTT) TV service.

"As Brazil's leading broadcaster, video quality is critical to everything we do," said Marcelo Souza, director, digital media technology for TV Globo. "For more than four years, Elemental software-based solutions have helped us meet exacting standards. Our new Globo Play service is a hit with viewers and is the type of success we want to repeat many times. To achieve this, we need a high-quality, scalable video infrastructure that adapts quickly. So we turned to Elemental."

Within a fully virtualized environment, Globo can elastically scale instances of Elemental Server file-based video processing using Elemental Conductor video management, including to transcode MXF files and to support real-time live-to-VOD workflows. Elemental provides Globo advanced quality management controls through a single, seamless user interface. Along with virtualized Elemental Conductor and Elemental Server systems, standalone Elemental Live systems provide linear content to the multi-platform servers and the content delivery network (CDN) for delivery to consumers. Elemental video architecture enables Globo Play to add immersive functionality like second screen synchronization and personalized services.

"We are excited to take our work with Globo to the next level and to support the high level of quality and innovation that have become the hallmark of this media leader," said Dan Marshall, senior vice president of worldwide sales for Elemental. "Elemental's ability to scale and to virtualize helps Globo accelerate its technology innovation and delight their viewers."

At NAB 2016, Elemental will demonstrate its full suite of products in both on-premises and cloud-based deployments, including new video ingest, processing and delivery capabilities. Highlights include high dynamic range, virtual reality and 8K UHD video encoding; live broadcasting from the cloud, server-side ad insertion, unified headend support and multiscreen monetization. The company will also showcase SDI over IP and live channel playout with dynamic content control and motion graphic overlay functionality. Elemental will be at NAB in booth SU2724 and in AWS booth SL9016.
