Filming Begins On Robot Wars

News Image
Filming has commenced on the new series of Robot Wars.

The show, which will air on BBC Two later this year, will be presented by Dara Ó Briain and Angela Scanlon. Similar to the previous format of the hit show, the presenters will get up close with the teams of amateur roboteers as they battle it out to win the Robot Wars title. The original House Robots also return for the new series – including Dead Metal, Matilda, Shunt and Sir Killalot. However, the House Robots have been upgraded to make them even more impressive and menacing than before.

Filming is taking place in front of a studio audience at a new purpose-built fighting arena in Glasgow. The arena includes technological advances since the show first aired over ten years ago, while viewers at home will be even closer to the action as state-of-the-art cameras capture every moment in incredible detail.

A panel of expert judges also returns for the new series. They are:

• Professor Noel Sharkey. Professor Sharkey is a Professor of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics at Sheffield University, and is the only judge to appear in every Robot Wars series. He is also a co-director of the Foundation for Responsible Robotics.

• Professor Sethu Vijayakumar. Professor Vijayakumar is a world-renowned roboticist and a Director at the Edinburgh Centre for Robotics at University of Edinburgh.

• Doctor Lucy Rogers. Doctor Rogers is a Doctor of Mechanical Engineering and owner of robotics building company, Makertorium. She is also an accomplished author of It's Only Rocket Science.

Robot Wars is a six-part series for BBC Two. It is produced by Mentorn Scotland, part of the Tinopolis Group, in association with SJP Media. Further details will be announced shortly.
