Panasonic AJ-HDC27 camera released

Panasonic have released their AJ-HDC27 Varicam HD Cinema camera designed for projects ranging from television commercials for large advertising agencies to programs for major corporations.
The camera is adaptable for TV commercials, long-form sponsored videos, web hosting, DVD and CD-ROM production, and the creation of MPEG material for web distribution.
Since taking delivery of the AJ-HDC27 Varicam, the camera has been used on primarily on commercial shoots, recruitment presentations and corporate videos.
Leo Ticheli Productions have taken recent receipt of the product having been shooting predominantly in Digital Betacam and 35mm.
Mr Ticheli said: "At this point, I'm discouraging our clients from shooting any other format. I've found the AJ-HDC27 Varicam exceedingly valuable, as it delivers the highest-quality image – on a par with 35mm – to clients who could never have afforded film. The images are stunning."
The Varicam, when considered alongside HD monitors, then downconverted to 601, has far superior images. The AJ-HDC27 Varicam's designers hope that the variable frame-rate capability, among other facilities, will ensure to many clients replacing current film cameras.
Mr Ticheli added: "I'm asked why I'm shooting in HD today when my ultimate product is still 525i. Obviously, I'm archiving a 16:9, HD master for my clients. But I'm also saving between $5000-$10,000 per shoot day, which is money that can be re-allocated into things that show up on the screen – like longer shooting time, more extras and more elaborate sets."
