Taking Stock @ Tyrell – One Year On...

News Image
The last 12 months have been so busy and I've become so engrossed in my work on the other side of the technology-buying fence, it wasn't until somebody reminded me that I've been with Tyrell for over a year that I actually stopped and thought about it, writes Declan Hogan, Technical Director at Tyrell.

Sure, being a broadcast and post production engineer was no walk in the park and we had to keep up with all the technical trends and developments and attend important meetings and all that, all while keeping television stations on the air or paying clients happy with the creative services they were receiving.

However, nothing really prepared me for the cut and thrust of being right there in the front line of designing and supporting complex content creation systems as an independent reseller.

It is a totally different environment to working for a large organization, make no mistake.

Tyrell's clients operate in all parts of the content production chain and we have to be very versatile in terms of our knowledge levels, skills sets and, above all, our ability to think on our feet.

My job doesn't just involve keeping the technical wheels on and pointing the business in the right direction, either.

Trade shows are becoming like a big supermarket trolley dash in search of the next big tech breakthrough and making sure we get to see absolutely everybody we need to, in the name of supplier and customer relations.

September will be my second IBC in a Tyrell shirt. I'll be all ears if you've got something new to show me while we're there.
