Zandar Technologies purchase OmniTek OmniGen

Test and measurement manufacturer OmniTek has announced that Ireland-based video processing specialists Zandar Technologies has purchased an OmniGen with the Image Capture and Motion option, as well as the SMPTE RP222 reference digital video test sequences.
OmniGen is a multi-format, software-based digital test signal generator with full-motion sequence playout capability.
Zandar Technologies manufactures video display processors for the display of multiple video sources on a single screen. These are used in the industry to create virtual monitor stacks, allowing the viewing of multiple sources coming into a control room on a single display system. The growth of HD, particularly in the US and Asia, has led Zandar to embark on the development of HD-capable products. As part of this ongoing development programme Zandar required test and measurement equipment that could generate HD and SD signals.
Zandar chose OmniTek products because of the flexible and versatile PC-based architecture. The unique Capture and Motion option provides the capability to grab external video images and full-motion sequences in any SD or HD video format and store them for subsequent playout. Images or sequences may also be created using any standard PC software application, which enables Zandar to generate their own custom video test sequences for use in their R & D laboratory.
Killian O’Sullivan, technical director, said: “We develop quite a lot of in-house video processing intellectual property and we wanted to evaluate our own video scaling algorithms as well as our own video de-interlacing algorithms on HD sources. We wanted to be able to create our own custom test motion sequences in HD, load them into the OmniGen and then play them out so that we can evaluate the quality of our algorithms. It was that ability that really attracted us.”
