BBC MediaArc chooses Discreet HD 'flame'

The award-wining BBC MediaArc team have chosen Discreet's HD 'flame' visual effects system as the "best fit" to complement their existing line-up.
BBC MediaArc have found that they are increasingly required to work in HD and in the desire to further develop BBC MediaArc's compositing abilities fuelled the purchase. The 'flame' has already been used to complete the titles for the BBC's Winter Olympics coverage and is currently being put through its paces on a major new series incorporating animation and film effects, which is to be aired later this year. The BBC facility already includes HD 'fire', Discreet's non-compressed, non-linear editing and finishing system.
BBC MediaArc compared a number of other systems available but found the HD 'flame' to be best suited for their needs.
The HD aspect was high on the MediaArc shopping list, as was the system's adaptability to tackle the majority of projects on the company's order book.
James Hall, Creative Director of MediaArc, said: "Our operation is creatively driven – delivering ideas in new and exciting ways is our trade and 'flame' will play a key role in helping us realise those ideas."
The visual effects system, which is networked with BBC MediaArc HD 'fire' and 3D workstations, represents the first HD 'flame' sale. BBC MediaArc, Bristol provides material for both internal and external customers, including animation design, effects creation, and commercials production.
