Sky 1 Confirms Series Two Of Air Ambulance ER

News Image
Tern TV and GroupM Entertainment have been commissioned by Sky 1 to produce a second series of Air Ambulance ER (6x60').

The observational documentary series will return with more access and cutting-edge medicine as it follows the life-saving work of doctor-led Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) in the North and South of Britain.

Cameras will capture every step of the way, from the moment an emergency call comes in and the team is scrambled, to landing at the scene and treating the patient and onto the hospital handover.

Also new for this series will be some of the latest pioneering developments in HEMS, including new state-of-the-art PUS (Portable Ultra Sound) equipment, to the complex and expensive process that enables the service to carry fresh blood on board.

Viewers will also get the opportunity to witness night missions in this new series, which is being introduced by the Air Ambulance teams later this year.

As well as offering a look into their work, Air Ambulance ER provides an intimate look at the inspirational men and women in the elite life-saving squads. They include Lieutenant Colonel Simon Le Clerc – the ultimate action-man doctor, whose military pedigree pushes the medical boundaries of the Air Ambulance – and Jane 'Supermum' Peacock, the operations boss of the Great North AA and mum of two.

Harry Bell, Creative Director and Executive Producer, Tern TV, said: "Air Ambulance ER offers a unique and rare insight into the incredible service offered by HEMS. We are delighted to be working again with the UK's leading AA teams who are bringing the A&E skills of a major trauma hospital to the field.

"In this series we will cover their very latest pioneering advances from carrying fresh blood, to portable ultra sounds to the challenges of night flying operations. Our focus is on the men and women of these remarkable small teams and the skill, conviction and passion with which they bond to deliver life-changing missions every day. It's a great privilege to tell such intimate stories driven by heroes who are pioneering major trauma work at the front lines of our emergency services across the whole UK. This combination has made Air Ambulance ER a very dramatic and returnable series and we are delighted that it will be back on Sky 1."

James Quinn, Factual Commissioning Editor, Sky Entertainment Channels, added: "We are delighted to be welcoming Air Ambulance ER back to Sky 1. The show invites viewers to step inside an unfolding real-life medical drama, in the company of inspiring but down-to-earth characters. This is a truly intimate portrait of the people who save us from major trauma, the biggest killer of people under 40s in the UK."

Air Ambulance ER series two (6x60') was commissioned by James Quinn, Factual Commissioning Editor, Sky. It is series produced by Nicki Young, directed by Steve Allen and David Richardson and executive produced by Harry Bell for Tern TV and Melanie Darlaston for GroupM Entertainment.
