DGP deliver largest DVD release of 2003

DGP have delivered the masters for the two-disc DVD box set of 'The Lord of The Rings - The Two Towers', the second instalment of the Tolkien trilogy, which has been released worldwide recently.
Initial pre-production meetings started as far back as November 2002, with the work actually starting in March 2003 to ensure consistency of product worldwide.
New Line Cinema, a Time Warner company, called on Warner Music Manufacturing Europe (WMME) to oversee the discs pre-mastering and the replication. WMME as a replicator has no DVD pre-mastering capabilities in-house. They turned to London based DGP and, to assist them, Enterative Entertainment in Hamburg, to author this huge project. A two disc box set, with a total of 17 versions covering 22 languages.
DGP and Enteractive Entertainment are affiliated to the Los Angeles based Warner Bros company known as Global Digital Media Exchange (GDMX) who are responsible for all Warner Bros DVD products. GDMX has eight affiliated companies in key territories around the world. All of which have the same proprietary DVD encoding and authoring technology and as a result projects can be split or passed around the globe with ease.
DGP were tasked with project managing the Two Towers pre-mastering, with Senior Producer Simon Waller in charge of the teams. Disc two was authored by DGP's senior author Damien Roy and Ekkehard Kruckenburg from Enteractive moved to London to author disc one, working alongside Damien and DGP's video compression and quality control departments. The audio compression and subtitle work took place in Hamburg, the two companies communicating with high speed digital links.
