Scottish Screen report US documentary success

Scottish Screen have announced that the award winning documentary 'Rivers and Tides', part funded by the Scottish Screen Lottery, has achieved sales topping $2 million in the United States, where it has charmed audiences from coast to coast.
Rivers & Tides, an arts documentary about sculptor Andy Goldsworthy, directed, photographed and edited by leading German film-maker Thomas Riedelsheimer and produced by Trevor Davies and Leslie Hills of Edinburgh production company Skyline, premiered at the Berlin Film Festival and the Edinburgh International Film Festival in 2001.
Earlier this summer Rivers and Tides won a Lola (German equivalent of the Oscars) for Best Documentary, a hugely important award in a country which considers the documentary its major art form.
When it opened in San Francisco last autumn it quickly achieved prime position on the arthouse circuit and its popularity spread rapidly across the country to New York where it is proving a big hit with fans of documentary.
Leslie Hills of Skyline is delighted with the film's success: "We knew Andy Goldsworthy was an artist with a big international following when we embarked on the documentary, but we had really no idea the film would be such a terrific hit and attract so many people to see it.
"Scottish Screen supported us from the very start and I know they are as pleased as we are that the film is making real money at the box office."
