Quantel to implement 'generationQ' scalable strategy

Quantel have unveiled the results of a three-year review of the company’s generationQ strategy to cater for post-production houses and broadcasters in the modern digital age.
The generationQ strategy unveiled by Quantel involves the implementation of a common unitary user interface, a common all-encompassing approach to platform integration, and the adoption of what in Quantel terms - 'a common philosophy'.
Quantel Executive Chairman Richard Taylor said generationQ was the "physical expression of Quantel thinking".
"Because we develop both hardware and software, Quantel is uniquely placed to provide the appropriate combination at every level, with total scalability throughout. This is what our industry needs – and because we are the only company that spans both disciplines, we are the only company who can offer such a radical new way forward for our industry. generationQ is, in all respects, a revolution in the making.”
Covering four main areas - post, news, graphics and production - the strategy involves the release of a new generation of scalable integrated technologies for editing, effects, graphics, news and production applications.
For post, the scalable range includes software and hardware that encompass high-end digital post for HD and 2K (digital film) with iQ, and introduces eQ. As a new ultra-high performance, resolution co-existent timeline editing and effects workhorse, eQ aims to offer affordable, efficient, co-operative workflow in the SD environment and has the potential of bringing high-resolution business to the mainstream post house.
For news, Quantel aims to offer scalability of hardware and software with a common, progressive interface at all levels with an ergonomic, easy-to-use timeline editor. The sQ Server with Frame Magic, provides total fragmented server operation that is bilingual in terms of IT files and broadcast frames. It aims to provide intelligent file management yet maintains frame-accurate operation from journalist browse-to-craft edit.
Paintbox makes a return as part of the generationQ strategy in the form of the fast, resolution co-existent gQ platform for creatives. This scalable, brand-new software brings Paintbox to the PC for the first time. Quantel expect that this integrated graphics solution will make Paintbox available at all levels of the broadcast workflow.
It is an uncommon strategy for Quantel, with senior management readily admitting that Quantel’s thinking in the past had, in their own words, been “arrogant”.
However, the beta product demos revealed that the integrated scalable approach coupled to a new, clean yet feature rich interface has led to a fast, powerful and flexible range of real-time resolution co-existent solutions for post, news and graphics. Expected release date for the new products is June 2002.
