InterTrust releases Video Architecture for Sun platform

InterTrust Technologies Corporation, a leading provider of patented computing and Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology, have announced the release the InterTrust Video Architecture (IVA) for the Sun platform.
InterTrust believe that service providers and network operators in vertical industries such as Digital TV, seeking to deploy Video On Demand (VOD) and interactive television applications could benefit from the technology.
IVA leverages the relationship between two leading technology providers, and allows media service providers to deliver DRM-based content to a variety of next generation clients including set-top boxes, Personal Video Recorders (PVRs), PCs and mobile communicators.
IVA delivers InterTrust's patented Rights|System technology on the proven Sun platform – which is an integrated end-to-end technology suite for IP-based digital media distribution applications – providing support for a variety of media standards, in particular the newly released MPEG-4 standard.
Rights|System is InterTrust's second-generation DRM platform technology and provides protection and management functionality for a host of client types with a common data centre architecture.
“IVA for the Sun platform delivers a comprehensive end-to-end solution for secure digital media distribution,” said Manish Bhuptani, Group Manager of Network Services Market Development at Sun Microsystems Inc.
“By delivering a solution to better protect and manage digital assets, Sun and InterTrust can help content providers deliver a more compelling consumer experience that will boost subscriber stickiness.”
Using IVA, service providers can download or stream real-time protected media to a variety of client components ranging from set-top boxes and PVRs to mobile communicators and PCs. Service providers using the solution can deliver high-grade entertainment to their subscribers while ensuring rights holder interests through the use of rights management technology.
EVP Business Development at InterTrust, Talal Shamoon, said:
“InterTrust are proud to be working with Sun to offer an end-to-end solution for digital media distribution. Sun's expertise in Internet media server technology coupled with our robust DRM solution will provide a reliable and scaleable solution set to service providers seeking to leverage IP based distribution for their offerings.”
