Wisden.com partner BBC Technology to broadcast live cricket

Wisden.com, the leading cricket website, in association with Pacific Century CyberWorks and BBC Technology, will follow their successful screening of the recent India v England one-day series by broadcasting all international cricket from India live on the Internet until September 2004.
Branching out into the digital era, Wisden.com was created in 2001 to offer users a distinctive and innovative service based on the Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack, which is often referred to as “the Bible of cricket”. Wisden.com provides its subscribers with up-to-the-minute reports and instant comment on cricket matters, as well as a treasure-trove of the best articles from the Wisden Almanack, dating back to the very first edition in 1864.
BBC Technology, using the television feed from Doordarshan, the Indian national broadcaster, will produce, encode and stream the highlights packages from its centres in London and Reading. Broadcasting live over the Internet will open up a new potential audience around the world, with fans being able to watch every ball of every Indian home series live on their computer. Wisden.com already has registered users in 100 different countries.
The first series to be shown will be the current one against Zimbabwe. Doordarshan and Pacific Century CyberWorks jointly own and run dd.now.com, the Doordarshan website.
Philip Langsdale, Chief Executive BBC Technology, said: “We are delighted to team together our expertise delivering digital solutions for one of the world’s leading broadcasters with cricket’s authoritative and respected “bible”. This will bring cricket fans together across continents.”
