Film Club Joins WWF

News Image
A new animated film created by Film Club for the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) has been launched today to build public support for the new WWF campaign: Draw The Line.
The film aims to encourage people to register objection to oil exploration in Virunga National Park, Africa's oldest national park, and a treasured World Heritage Site.
Film Club director Belle Mellor designed the film.
"The beauty of the park and all the different unusual and wonderful animals you see really brings home what a tragedy oil exploration would be," says Belle.
"I wanted to show all this and convey that with each signing of the petition we can achieve a great deal together. As the saying goes: if enough ants gather together they can lift an elephant."
The film is designed to build emotion in the viewer by highlighting that the national park, with more species of mammals, reptiles and birds than any other protected area in Africa, is at risk of becoming an oil field.
"It was fantastic working with such a talented artist like Belle Mellor," adds Greg Armfield, content production manager, WWF-UK.
"Her animation captures the magic of Virunga and manages to underpin all the feelings a place like this could evoke - especially when you realise it's at threat and may be lost."
Sue Loughlin, executive producer of Film Club comments: "Working with WWF on such an important campaign was an amazing experience. We knew right away that Belle's strong design style would give it the iconic look and feel vital to support the aim of attracting enough attention to Virunga, Belle's beautiful design is hugely evocative and we hope the impact goes far in wide in getting people to sign up."
Mr Armfield continued: "We were delighted to work with Belle and Film Club on this. Like us, they understand how powerful animation can be in garnering support for a campaign and reaching beyond the usual audiences. But we want people to do more than just watch the animation – we want people to take action to protect Virunga by signing up today."
