Thomson Broadcast Solutions announce key orders

Thomson Broadcast Solutions have announced that it received millions of dollars (US) in key orders across newly combined product lines at NAB 2002 and multiple awards for its Viper FilmStream Camera System.
The orders and awards prove the strength in the market of the recently combined Thomson and Grass Valley product lines.
The Viper FilmStream Camera System was one of the most talked about products among film and video professionals at NAB 2002. Designed for theatrical release motion pictures, episodic television, and commercial production, the camera differs from other forms of electronic and digital image acquisition in that it captures every bit of information a scene has to offer in a non-destructive, transparent, and reproducible way—with no traditional video processing. The camera’s optical block contains three unique 9.2 megapixel CCDs for a total of 27.6 million pixels to capture the quality of images required for true film-like digital cinematography. Using it, post-production tools actually know how many photons have reached every one of the camera's pixels—just like individual grains of film react to light.
The Viper FilmStream Camera System won three major industry awards at NAB 2002, including the Vidy Award for the Advancement in the Art of Science and Technology from CMP Entertainment Technology Group, the STAR 2002 Award from TV Technology magazine, and the Pick Hit from Broadcast Engineering/Intertec Publishing.
The key orders announced by Thomson Broadcast Solutions include: the BBC, who purchased a Grass Valley Zodiak digital production switcher; Network 9 in Australia, which purchased a Thomson Trinix 256 router and UTV in Ireland, which purchased an XtenDD production switcher and a Venus routing system.
With sales of 10.5 billion Euros (U.S. $ 9.3 billion) in 2001 and 73,000 employees in more than 30 countries, Thomson (Paris Euronext: 18453) (NYSE: TMS), provides a wide range of video (and enabling) technologies, systems, finished products and services to consumers and professionals in the entertainment and media industries. The products include cameras, film-imaging products, switchers, servers and storage-area network (SAN) systems, routers and modular products, digital news production products, VTRs, and systems solutions ranging from consulting, design, and planning to systems for transmission control and workspace control and configuration.
