Young filmmaker named best Welsh newcomer

The Skillset sponsored BAFTA Cymru Best Newcomer 2003 award has been won by up and coming producer/director Angharad Penrhyn Jones.
Jones collected her award at the BAFTA ceremony held in Cardiff on Saturday April 26. In addition to the coveted BAFTA Award, 26-year-old Jones also receives £1000 towards training to further her career thanks to the joint sponsorship from Skillset, the Sector Skills Council for the Audio Visual Industries, and Cyfle, the training organisation for film, TV and interactive media industries in Wales.
Gwawr Hughes, Director of Skillset Cymru, said: “This is an exciting time for the industry in Wales. There are many new developments on the horizon and a lot of work is going on to establish Wales as a creative force that can compete with the major players. It has never been more important to encourage and develop new talent that will stay in Wales and help the industry to thrive."
