EVS Set To Showcase Live Multi-Camera Content Delivered Through Cloud Platforms

At the 2012 SMPTE Annual Technical Conference & Exhibition, EVS product development manager, Werner Ramaekers, is set to present a paper on delivering live multi-camera content to smart devices through cloud platforms.
The conference, which brings together world-renowned technology thought leaders from the media content business, takes place on October 23-25 in Hollywood, California.
Broadcasters must engage a new generation of multitasking viewers who no longer sit passively in front of their televisions but browse the Internet and interact with social media while watching TV. Ramaekers’ presentation will address how broadcasters can enrich the viewing experience and maximize the value of content by delivering the large amount of unused content on live TV production servers to viewers’ second screens.
Ramaekers will explore the technology challenges in building open and scalable platforms to deliver high quality original content—including unseen camera angles and highlights—to second screens. The presentation will highlight best practices in building near-live multi-camera replay platforms on top of standard live production environments. Attendees will learn how to overcome challenges in cloud-based production and delivery to multi-screens, and how to integrate such a platform with social networks, archives, stats and other third-party content.
The presentation is part of the ‘migrating to the cloud’ track and will take place at 5.15pm on Wednesday October 24 in Salon 1 at the Loews Hollywood Hotel. Co-authors Maher Khatib, executive vice president of product architecture and technology, EVS, and Johann Schreurs, general manager, new media broadcast, EVS, will be on hand to answer questions after the session.
Ramaekers oversees the development of EVS’ award-winning C-Cast, the first advanced multi-cam solution allowing instant distribution of multi-camera angle content from venues to web-connected screens during live productions. Suited to any sports and live events, it offers broadcasters and media holders unlimited possibilities to deliver extended media packages to multiple audiences including TV viewers, spectators, coaches, journalists and referees. With fully-modular and service-oriented architecture, C-Cast adapts to any kind of business or workflow, and offers advanced integration with third party web systems and data import such as statistics, commercials and tweets.
C-Cast played a pioneering role in delivering second-screen media content to viewers throughout the Euro 2012 Football Championships and kicked off the new season of the French football league.
