Calrec Audio equip Granada with Alpha 100 console

Calrec Audio, manufacturers of professional audio equipment, have provided a 32-fader, 48-channel Alpha 100 digital console for Granada Media's 3sixtymedia studios in Manchester – the third Alpha 100 to go live on air in the UK.
The console is part of a total overhaul to the sound gallery in 3sixtymedia's Studio 8 facility at Quay Street. Fully SDI 16:9 capable, the 5,300 sq. ft studio is used for a variety of live and pre-recorded productions spanning all genres including entertainment shows, drama and live debates.
"The decision to choose digital over analogue was primarily to facilitate future demands for surround production. Working with digital audio meant that existing audio and video equipment was easily integrated. It will also allow for new digital products to be incorporated with minimum cost and disruption to the business," said Guy Lewis, Head of Technical Operations at 3sixtymedia - a joint venture between Granada Media plc and BBC Resources Ltd.
"The Alpha 100 was chosen for a number of reasons. Important factors included, price, functionality, ease of operation and suitability for purpose. Confidence in product, support mechanisms, fail-safe signal paths and inbuilt redundancy were also vital.
"The Calrec scored highest when assessed against this criteria. This coupled with a excellent track record of service within Granada Media plc's studios across the UK, made the Alpha 100 the only realistic option," he added.
