BBC Post Production acquires Quantel eQ for HD

BBC Post Production have expanded their High Definition (HD) postproduction capacity with the acquisition of a Quantel eQ HD finishing system.
The eQ will allow the conforming, grading and online processes to be carried out by the craft staff to create finished HD programmes for the international market.
The eQ is equipped with the QColor in-context colour grading option, allowing editors and directors to make colour-grading decisions interactively as part of the editing and finishing process.
In addition to high-end broadcast work, eQ will also handle Standard Definition (SD) resolution output, extending its usefulness into day-to-day editing. For projects where a mixture of HD, SD and/or CGI material is used (for example SD archive and action footage within natural history or factual/documentary programming), the eQ’s resolution co-existent operation will allow these to be freely mixed on the timeline, with conversion to the required playout format(s) only carried out – on the fly - at output stage.
