TMD Demonstrates Asset Management At Broadcast Asia

TransMedia Dynamics (TMD), a world leader in the development and delivery of solutions and services to the global media, broadcast and archive industries, is showcasing the latest in asset management technology at Broadcast Asia 2012.
The demonstrations will include the launch of a new app for tablets and smartphones to boost productivity in production and approvals.
The Mediaflex suite of software is now regarded as the most sophisticated asset management system available, both for broadcast users and for audiovisual archives which have a number of significant additional challenges. At Broadcast Asia TMD is showing the latest release of Mediaflex software, including the i-mediaflex web-enabled client, all based on a service orientated architecture (SOA).
As well as allowing users to access content and metadata from any location, the SOA also enabled the development of i-mediaflex Mobile, a new app for the iPad, Android tablet and smartphone. This allows users to access content from a handheld device, and add or update metadata. A typical use would be to get rapid approvals of new content such as promotions or trailers, with the producer notified as soon as the work is ready, and able to view it instantly and either sign approval or send notes to the editor for reworking.
The SOA also allowed the development of the TMD Unified Media Services (UMS) toolkit. This API allows external media services and devices, whether using their own proprietary interface or an open, FIMS-style adaptor, to be integrated on a single workflow bus. It eliminates the need for visibility of any individual proprietary API, allowing the system designer to create workflows based entirely on services. The result is a simple way to build complex workflows through production and post production, driven by the content itself and the metadata associated with it.
Alongside its systems for broadcasters, TMD is now seen as a leading provider of content and collection management systems for audiovisual archives. These typically involve the tracking not just of digital content but of physical assets too, and of assets in varying stages of restoration. To meet these additional needs, TMD has grouped additional functionality together in a dedicated software module: Mediaflex Collections.
"There is widespread recognition around the industry today that good asset management is critical to maximising productivity as well as increasing revenues," said Tony Taylor, chairman and CEO of TMD. "The challenge in developing good asset management is to make the data structures robust so that subsequent searches capture all the relevant content, and to make access to that data - for everyone from professional archivists to occasional users - simple, direct and precise. That is what we will be showing at Broadcast Asia with the latest developments in Mediaflex."
