Canon Launch Two New 4K Cameras

News Image
Canon has been showing off a prototype of a new EOS digital-cinema camera, the C500, at NAB 2012. This is the next development of the camera range that kicked off with the launch of the C300 last year.
The C500 however comes with a key difference from the recently announced C300 - this one will output a raw 4K picture to an external recording device. It is a higher-end version of the C300 and adds several shooting modes, dual 3G-SDI ports and a larger, permanent grip. As well as recording 2K and 4K pictures it can also act as a full HD camera. The price tag for the camera is understood to come in at around £16K.
Also at NAB, the company launched a second 4K camera coming in a half the price at around £8K. This records 4K video to CF cards and can also output full 1080 HD up to 60p.
"With the unveiling of our Cinema EOS System last November to great acclaim, Canon marked our full-fledged entry into the motion-picture production market," stated Yuichi Ishizuka, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Imaging Technologies & Communications Group, Canon U.S.A.
"To further serve the needs of Hollywood's premier filmmakers, Canon is developing the Cinema EOS C500 and Cinema EOS C500 PL digital cinematography cameras, which deliver the added benefit of full 4K motion-image capture to the Cinema EOS System."
