BBC To Air UK's First Scripted 3D Project
The BBC is developing British TV’s first 3D comedy drama as part of a two-year trial.
No details about the programme are known, but it is aimed for broadcast early next year and will be the first long-form 3D scripted content aired in the UK.
The BBC is following the lead of US counterparts such as NBC, which demonstrated a non-TX 3D version of soap Days Of Our Lives at last week’s MipTV.
Talking to Screen Daily BBC head of 3D Kim Shillinglaw said the UK broadcaster is looking to test the medium in "as many genres as we can", with arts and science 3D programming likely to follow.
"Each genre presents different challenges, and we have to make sure with each experiment that we are testing some aspect of production or distribution.
"Discussions are now taking place with unnamed commercial partners about investing in the programmes," said Shillinglaw.
