Three New Faces On BBC Board

Fresh appointments have been made by to the BBC Executive Board.
With the approval of the BBC Trust, the BBC has confirmed the appointment of three non-executive directors of the BBC Executive Board. Sally Davis and Dame Fiona Reynolds will join the board from 1 January 2012 and Brian McBride will join from 1 March 2012.
They follow the departures of Samir Shah (left 31 December 2010); Val Gooding (leaves 31 December 2011); and Robert Webb (leaves 29 February 2012).
Announcing the appointments, BBC Director-General Mark Thompson said: "I’m delighted that three such experienced individuals will now be able to contribute to the effectiveness of the Executive Board.
"As we start to deliver the commitments set out in Delivering Quality First, the BBC will benefit enormously from the wealth and variety of expertise they bring and I am very much looking forward to working with them in the future."
Sally Davis was previously CEO of BT Wholesale. After starting her working life as a journalist, she joined Mercury Communications in the early 1980s, leaving to start up a new cable TV business.
Since then, she has worked in strategy and global operational roles based in the US and UK for Cable & Wireless, Verizon and BT. She is currently a Non-Executive Director of Telenor, Logitech and the Department for Transport with specific interests in education, disability and mentoring young entrepreneurs.
Brian McBride is the former Managing Director of Amazon.co.uk. He began his career with Xerox and subsequently worked at IBM, Crosfield Electronics, Madge Networks, Lucent, Dell Computers and as Managing Director of T-Mobile (UK).
He has been a Non-Executive Director of Celtic Football Club PLC, SThree PLC, and the British Retail Consortium and is a former chairman of Virgin Mobile. Brian is currently Chairman of MX Data, a Member of the Advisory Board of Numis PLC and Huawei UK, and Non-Executive Director of Computacenter PLC and Monitise PLC.
Dame Fiona Reynolds has been Director-General of the National Trust since January 2001.
She has led a programme of change, updating the structures and management of one of the country’s best known institutions. She was previously Director of the Women’s Unit in the Cabinet Office and Director of the Council for the Protection of Rural England and Secretary to the Council for National Parks. She was awarded the CBE for services to the environment and conservation in 1998 and was appointed a DBE in 2008.
