Editorial support for latest Bond provided by root6

Due for release in November, the latest Bond feature from Eon Productions, 'Die Another Day,' was known simply as 'BOND 20' when shooting started back in January this year.
As location filming got underway, the post production team were already finalising their requirements for the complex editorial process with root6 and Edit Hire - who would be supplying the necessary equipment.
"Our task at that stage was to help co-ordinate the pre-build planning," explained Graham McGuinness of root6. "And, as root6 would be responsible for the 24/7 editorial support on the feature, it was important to contribute a joined-up view of the overall project."
At the first meetings, the postproduction team indicated how much footage was likely to be shot and agreed the picture quality required for editing purposes. This determines the online storage requirement which, in the case of 'Die Another Day,' amounted to a substantial 1.7Tb - each Gb of storage providing about 10 minutes of pictures at the standard 14:1 editing resolution.
The next stage was the workflow design which had to accommodate both the day-to-day activities such as screenings, allow for shared project activity and incorporate schedules by which selected shots would be handed to FX houses and the sound department.
To handle the postproduction, eight cutting rooms were built from scratch at Pinewood utilising an Avid Unity shared storage network with a mix of Mac and Windows-based Film Composers. A Symphony suite was added to handle some FX work and ProTools was utilised for sound editing. "With such a project," McGuinness continues, "the key is to design it so that it may grow unhindered as demands change. The system is working well and root6 is providing ongoing 24/7 editorial support."
No stranger to feature film support, root6 also responsible for the support of the last Bond feature 'The World is not Enough,' '102 Dalmatians' and 'Tomb Raider.'
Additionally, root6 has similarly supported the Avid-based editing of the UK's most popular reality TV shows including 'Survivor,' 'Big Brother' and, most recently, 'Lad's Army.'
