Tyrell CCT Delivers Integrated Workflow Solutions For Game Of Thrones

Tyrell CCT has announced that the company has provided complete post production workflow solutions to leading Irish facilities Yellow Moon and Screen Scene for the sensational HBO series Game of Thrones.
The medieval fantasy epic was filmed on location in Northern Ireland and in the Paint Hall Studio, Belfast, with Yellow Moon and Screen Scene responsible for post producing and finishing.
The solutions for this high-end production included Avid editing, finishing and audio post production systems, storage solutions from Avid, Facilis & Rorke Data and archiving systems from Cache-A.
Tyrell CCT was involved from the initial workflow tests and set-up of the customised post studio in Yellow Moon's Belfast facility to the transfer and set-up at Screen Scene in Dublin, as well as providing telephone and onsite support throughout the post process.
Based on the popular book series A Song of Ice and Fire, by George R.R. Martin, this fantasy HBO series premiered in the US and UK in mid-April. The first episode of Game of Thrones opened to a gross US audience of 4.2 million viewers on the HBO main channel, while it enjoyed the biggest opener in the UK and Ireland on Sky Atlantic since the channel's launch.
HBO selected Belfast-based Yellow Moon for the offline edit and dallies delivery with Tyrell CCT developing a bespoke post environment within Yellow Moon for the Game of Thrones production.
Creating this post environment involved an extensive amount of wiring and system integration work in a short period of time with the proviso that it could all be easily transported from Belfast to Dublin when the shoot wrapped. During the process Tyrell CCT managed the integration of eight Avid Media Composer Nitris DX edit suites to a new 16TB fibre channel Avid Unity system. As the rushes were being captured on to the Avid Unity system, HBO's own Mac systems were also connected to the SAN to allow dallies to be generated and archives created.
For the archiving of the production rushes Tyrell CCT supplied Yellow Moon with a Pro Cache LTO4 unit from Cache-A. This interfaced with both the Macs and the PC-based Avid systems over the production network to allow centralised and managed archives.
As the shoot wrapped up in Belfast, Tyrell CCT had responsibility for transferring the Avid Unity and offline data to Screen Scene in Dublin and re-commissioning the edit systems for finishing. The Screen Scene online edit team used Avid DS 10.5 in conjunction with Galaxy Aurora, a high speed SAN from Rorke Data, to facilitate collaboration for the final post. A high resolution DPX workflow was also employed between the VFX suites, the Avid DS and the Digital vision Nucoda Film Master for the final grade.
Avid ICON and Pro Tools provided the final audio mix to complement the amazing visuals. Tyrell CCT upgraded Screen Scene's dubbing theatre for the project to include four Mac-based Pro Tools systems, one each for dialogue, effects and music, locked together via Avid's Video Satellite technology with a fourth system recording the final mix.
