Cité de Mémoire Scan And Restore Film With New DSX Film Scanning Suite From Cintel

Cité de Mémoire, experts in the management of audiovisual collections based in Rue de la Plaine in central Paris, has installed a new film scanning suite compromising of a Cintel DSX 'data-cine' and O C E A N Control desk and Colour Corrector as well as an imageMill Grain Reducer and Image Stabiliser.
Cité de Mémoire's Managing Director Denis Garcia embarked on stringent testing of a number of telecine's and film scanners available before deciding on the DSX.
Denis explained: "We were reasonably happy with the image quality from a lot of the machines we looked at but the DSX gave us exceptional resolution and dynamic range, as well as the powerful optical dust and scratch system - OLIVER - which will reduce the time spent in downstream restoration.
"In addition to this, the CRT scanning gave more respect to the natural film look and is more sympathetic to prints compared with the CCD 'look'. However, perhaps the most astonishing aspect of the DSX was the enormous range of image recovery available in the internal colour correction. We brought some very faded old material, which was almost completely magenta in colour, testing on other 'data-cine' machines failed to recover any image from this film but on DSX we could actually achieve a coloured and balanced image. It was amazing!"
The DSX will form the hear of an SD HD and 2K data film scanning suite also compromising an imageMill with GRACE real time Film Grain Management and STEADY Image Stabilisation all fully timeline controlled by an O C E A N from Marquise Technologies.
The O C E A N system is the only new telecine controller and colour correction system available which can control the DSX and imageMill as well as adding another level of primary colour correction if required.
Cintel's Business Development Manager Simon Clark added: "It's great to see that the DSX machine fulfils everything required when scanning archive film - the ability to optically 'fix' surface dust and scratches in real time and use the high powered internal processing to recover image quality from even the most faded of films all at the highest resolution.
"The imageMill unit adds a level of film grain reduction and image stabilisation whilst the O C E A N Controller is essential in managing and controlling the workflow as well as providing tape-to-tape SD and HD colour correction. We are very honoured to be able to help Cité de Mémoire restore and recover images from archive film, it is so important that the history captured in film is recovered and restored for future generations."
