Rawson Gears Up For New Season Of Cougar Town With OConnor

Vitec Group OConnor has announced that cinematographer Andrew Rawson has chosen their 2575 head for the new season of the ABC series Cougar Town.
"I've been with Bill Lawrence, the creator of Cougar Town and Scrubs for the last ten years," said Rawson, who started as a gaffer on Scrubs and moved up to DP on the last two seasons. When Lawrence was prepping the pilot for Cougar Town, he brought Rawson onboard and stayed when the series was picked up. "We used OConnor heads on Scrubs for eight years," he said. "Actually, I have always used them. I would never be caught on a set without an OConnor 2575. Quite honestly, even if we were doing a show with gear heads."
About 75% of Cougar Town is shot on stage and 25% on location, with Panavision's Genesis system. Although it is a single camera show, Rawson keeps two cameras rolling all day long. He said: "That's a lot of work for the cameras, and we need support that will be there for us all the time and not break down. That's OConnor."
Rawson noted that A-Camera operator Rich Davis is a big OConnor fan as well. He explained: "Rich says that one of the best things about OConnor is versatility. Whether we are doing extreme tilts from ground level at our elevated boat set, or going underslung with low mode plates, the OConnor 2575 allows us to quickly adapt and execute the needs of any shots thrown at us."
Davis added: "The ultra smooth drag settings on the OConnor let me truly tune the head to my needs. Whether I am doing whip pans in the scene or going super light drag to work with a camera slider underneath, the OConnor makes it happen quickly and smootly."
