China's Fujian Southeast Cable Upgrades With Thomson Video Networks Technology

Thomson Video Networks has announced that China's largest cable operator, Fujian Southeast Cable has upgraded its headend infrastructure with a solution from Thomson Video Networks.
On air since February, the system was specified and delivered at an accelerated schedule to meet the broadcaster's requirements. Part of the Fujian Media Group, Fujian Southeast Cable broadcasts to four million subscribers in the province, providing 11 television channels and six channels of audio.
The Thomson Video Networks installation at Fujian Southeast Cable comprises a range of VIBE encoders, NetProcessor 9030 Multiplexers, an Amethyst switcher and the XMS management system, with installation and professional services from Thomson's local staff. The system provides 1:1 redundancy for all channels.
Chen Tiegang of Fujian Southeast Cable said: "Thomson Video Networks moved very quickly to provide the equipment and service we needed for this project. The new technology Thomson has installed gives us a high-quality platform for continuing success and expansion of our services."
Thomson Video Networks' open and scalable solution for cable operators is highly efficient and adaptable and is great choice for smaller regional to large national broadcasters. With Thomson's renowned best-in-class compression combined with Flextream statistical multiplexing, Thomson's cable solution gives network operators increased bandwidth for interactive services, EPGs or VoD.
Thomson's NetProcessor multiplexer family provides complete flexibility for content distribution over Gigabit Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) networks and with reliable and highly automated workflows for both local and national commercial insertion into a compressed broadcast programme stream, the system offers an easy-to-manage platform for increased revenue generation. Built on open SCTE messaging, VIBE encoders and NetProcessor multiplexers perform seamless splicing of local ads stored on Thomson video servers.
Tony Berthaud, Director of Sales and Services, APAC for Thomson Video Networks, said: "We're glad to have been chosen by Fujian Southeast Cable both for our outstanding technology and for our ability to respond quickly with local engineering capability. Fujian now has a much more efficient, robust and cost-effective operation, with the potential for easy scalability to accommodate growth."
