Sky choose Sysmedia Plasma Magenta for new text service

Sky's new-look digital text service launched on August 7 to over 15 million digital satellite viewers in the UK, using SysMedia's Plasma Magenta content production and management system.
The new service will give Sky Digital subscribers access to over 1,000 Sky Text pages of constantly updated news, sport, travel and holiday information and weather whilst still being able to watch their favourite Sky programmes in quarter screen.
Other improvements include the ability to switch instantly between Sky Text and television, faster and easier navigation and quick links to games, email, betting and other Sky Active services. Viewers can browse information using the arrow keys on their Sky remote or, by entering specific page numbers, they can quickly call up the page they want at the touch of a button.
David Klein, Head of Sky Text, comments: "Over two million Sky Digital viewers are already using Sky Text each week, making it the most popular digital TV text service in the UK. The 'text' key is synonymous with Sky Text and we are confident that the new service will further increase usage now that viewers can watch TV and browse simultaneously."
Kip Parker, Sky Text Sales Controller added: "Sky Text is the only digital text service in the UK to offer ad space, delivering hundreds of pages of information to millions of digital satellite viewers at the touch of a button. The new and improved service allows advertisers to update ads instantaneously with their latest offers and information and has greatly increased the interactive opportunities we can offer them."
Colin Prior, Business Development Director of SysMedia, said: "Digital text and interactive services offer a huge range of possibilities beyond established teletext. The flexibility inherent in Plasma Magenta is ideally suited to taking advantage of these new revenue opportunities."
