Robin Hood Production Boosts Wales

News Image
The positive impact of movie productions being filmed in Wales has been hailed a success by ministers.
Robin Hood - which opened across the UK in mid April - was shot on location in Pembrokeshire, following support from the Wales Screen Commission (WSC, as part of the Welsh Assembly Government's Creative Business Wales team).
The film's producers spent five weeks in May and June 2009 shooting at Freshwater West and the nearby Castlemartin Army Training Estate in Pembrokeshire.
With close to 1,200 people involved, including 600 extras, 125 horses and horsemen, and over 300 crew, there were obvious benefits to the local economy.
Also the WSC strived to ensure that as many local people and companies as possible are used on a production whether as crew, trainees, extras or facility companies.
Deputy First Minister and Minister for the Economy, Leuan Wyn Jones, said: "I am pleased to see Robin Hood coming to the big screen after all the filming that was done in Pembrokeshire.
"Major Film productions such as this can bring great benefits to the local economy and provide opportunities for skilled creative industry workers in Wales.
"The film industry is an important part of the creative industry sector in Wales. Creative industries play a vital role in the Welsh economy and we are determined to ensure they are able to compete and contribute to long term, sustainable growth."
Minister for Heritage, Alun Ffred Jones, added: "Wales' outstanding natural landscape, its highly skilled workforce and support provided by the Wales Screen Commission are making it an increasingly popular destination for filming.
"And the release of Robin Hood will provide further international exposure for Wales and show the film industry and others all it has to offer."
