Dolby PRM-4200 Monitor Wins TV Technology’s Mario Award

A world leader in entertainment technologies has announced that its state-of-the-art Dolby PRM-4200 Professional Reference Monitor has been awarded the prestigious TV Technology Mario Award at this year’s NAB Show for its significant technical breakthrough, demonstration of forward thinking, and technical excellence.
The Dolby PRM-4200 Professional Reference Monitor is designed for professionals who rely on the most accurate measurement tools for colour-critical work.
"Dolby is extremely honoured and excited to be recognised for this award by TV Technology" said Jason Power, Senior Director, Marketing, Broadcast, Dolby Laboratories. "We firmly believe that the Dolby PRM-4200 sets a new standard for professional video reference monitors by delivering the accuracy of previous CRT monitors with the versatility of flat-panel displays."
Organised in 1993, the Mario Awards were established to recognise products that represent significant technical breakthroughs. Many of these products have gone on to significantly impact the future of video technology. The awards are named after Mario Orazio, a pseudonym for a nameless engineer and a renowned technology columnist for TV Technology who pens the industry's widely read column The Masked Engineer. The awards are given out annually at the NAB Show to companies demonstrating forward thinking and technical excellence in their products.
"Mario scours the NAB Show floor for the ten most innovative products that represent the pinnacle of technical achievement. We are proud to present these awards on behalf of ‘The Masked Engineer," said TV Technology Editor Tom Butts.
The Dolby PRM-4200’s 42-inch monitor is the world's first LCD-based video reference display that accurately reveals true and deep black levels with higher contrast across the entire colour spectrum, and provides an unprecedented luminance range and level. It uses a backlight comprised of red, green, and blue LEDs that are modulated individually on a frame-by-frame basis. The LCD panel is also modulated in real time as part of the dual-modulation process.
The new Dolby PRM-4200 Professional Reference Monitor is scheduled to be available later this year.
