Lord Puttnam to give Worldview Address at GEITF

Lord Puttnam, one of the most respected figures in British film and television, and the Chairman of the Joint Committee on the draft communications bill will give this year's Worldview Address at the Guardian Edinburgh International Television Festival (GEITF).
Puttnam's position on the committee, which published its recommendations last month, makes him one of the most relevant voices in broadcasting today. Lord Puttnam will address assembled delegates about the relationship between the European and American film and television industries and some of the very unique history behind it. Additionally, he will also speak about the issue of foreign media ownership and government media regulation in the wake of his influential parliamentary committee findings.
GEITF Advisory Chair 2002 and Joint MD of Tiger Aspect Productions, Charles Brand said: "In the wake of Lord Puttnam's select committee report on the broadcasting bill there is no-one better qualified to speak on British TV relationship's with the US and the rest of Europe. I'm delighted that Lord Puttnam will give us his insight into this crucial area and the UK broadcasters' and producers' creative role within it." The Worldview Address, a global view of the television business, was launched in 1990 and previous speakers have included Michael Fuchs, Barry Diller, Elisabeth Murdoch, Barclay Knapp and last year John de Mol. The Worldview Address is sponsored by UKTV. Lord Puttnam's Worldview Address at the Guardian Edinburgh International Television Festival 2002 will take place on Sunday August 25 at 2pm. Chris Evans is to give this year's Richard Dunn Memorial Interview, also on Sunday. Channel 4 Chief Executive Mark Thompson's MacTaggart lecture will open the Festival on Friday August 23.
