Digital Media Tees-Off 3D In Augusta

One of Europe's most advanced digital media facilities, The Digital Media Centre (DMC), has announced the debut of its 3D TV capability with the broadcast of the Masters Golf Tournament 2010 .
The DMC will playout 3D coverage of the Masters from Augusta, Georgia, from 8th - 11th April, in cooperation with Dutch cable operator UPC and the premium Dutch sports channel Sport1.
DMC's inaugural 3D broadcast combines challenging elements, such as transatlantic contribution, live transmission, and satellite uplink and distribution to multiple countries, and reaffirms DMC's position as industry pioneers.
The delivery of 3D TV is the latest development from the DMC, one of the first media facilities to introduce high definition (HD) in Europe in 2006.
Lukas Kernell, General Manager of Thematic Channels at DMC said: "We are delighted to debut our 3D TV capabilities with the broadcast of the Masters Golf Tournament. 3D is taking the viewer experience to the next level, and this development reaffirms our technical lead and commitment to the evolution of television."
The DMC, a division of Chellomedia, is focused on developing broadcast solutions. The facility launched HD services in 2006 and now provides HD services for five of its clients.
Apart from originating 60 channels the DMC has, since 2002, been providing VoD content to platform and mobile operators throughout Europe.
The 3D broadcast is consistent with the DMC's strategy of developing a consistent programme of innovation and broadcast delivery mechanisms that allow international channels to enhance their consumer offering over multiple platforms.
