Digital Rights Group Announce New Division – 3DRG

News Image
A leading content distributor has become the first distributor to launch a 3D catalogue with the new division - 3DRG. On the back of the sales success of The Queen in 3D at MIPCOM 2009, Digital Rights Group (DRG) will launch a further range of new recently produced 3D titles at MIP-TV 2010.
3DRG will be managed by Justin Judd, Managing Director of DRG’s digital arm i-Rights. Under the division, the distributor will be looking to acquire programming produced specifically for 3D, as well as new 3D episodes of existing titles and remastered content. The award-winning animated short The Technical Hitch (pictured) which is currently in the process of being remastered for 3D, is the first title to be added to the catalogue. In the run up to a full launch at MIP-TV, 3DRG is looking to acquire and invest in a range of programming, including factual, animation, music, drama and sports lifestyle, focusing specifically on stereoscopic 3D content.
Justin Judd commented: "2010 has started with a surge in interest in 3D, driven by the success of movies such as Up and Avatar and by the roll out of 3D screens for the home at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. It’s early days for 3D TV but our clients around the world are already looking for 3D content.
"Here in the UK, Sky has announced the roll out of a 3D channel and it’s clear that 3D can enhance programming beyond sports coverage. We know that other 3D channel launches are planned in all the major markets and all are hungry for content.
"We’ll be launching our 3DRG catalogue at MIP-TV in April so now is the perfect time for producers with 3D material to get in touch. We’re mostly looking for programming that has been produced specifically in 3D rather than remastered content. We’ve already got some really exciting projects lined up."
DRG Chief Executive Officer Jeremy Fox concluded: "We were the first company to launch an exclusive HD catalogue and we’re delighted to maintain our position as the UK’s leading independent and most innovative content distributor. It’s new, it’s different and we expect 3D to become a significant business over the next couple of years."
