Big Fat Success For Nordisk

Top Scandinavian distributor Nordisk Film TV World has announce a bunch of sales for the MIPCOM launched primetime format My Big Fat Parents.
The instant hit show has been picked up in twelve territories including US, Australia, Italy, Spain, The Netherlands, Poland, India, Indonesia and Norway.
Since its premiere on primary broadcaster TV3 Denmark on September 8, My Big Fat Parents has consistently drawn an exceptionally large audience. The show is airing weekly on Tuesday at 9pm and is achieving an average share of 21% over the channel's average share of 16%. Moreover, the show has increased its timeslot share by 43% compared to the previous show in the timeslot. It has also been among the top five rated shows each week for TV3 throughout the entire autumn season.
Karoline Spodsberg, International Director at Nordisk Film TV World, said: "This factual reality format has already gripped one nation, and with all these new sales, it's sure to do the same in other territories. It's a bold and unique reality show where children take full control, signing their parents up for a complete lifestyle overhaul. This formula, coupled with the international topicality of obesity, has resulted in a must-have format with broad appeal all over the world."
Devised by Nordisk Film TV, My Big Fat Parents sees overweight parents get fit while money piles up in their children's savings accounts.
Children take matters in their own hands and sign their plump parents up for a programme against excess kilos. It's a dramatic and emotional journey, where families discover how much it matters to their children that they are overweight, at the same time it's also their inspiration...
Over a period of five months, viewers follow five pairs of parents' struggle to lose weight. With help from leading coach, nutrition and sport experts, they compete to see who can lose the most weight and change their lifestyle for the better. The couples that lose the most weight (percentage of body mass) will meet one another in a weekly challenge. For every kilo lost, the weekly winning family will win the total amount, equivalent to €300 per kilo, which will be put into their children's savings accounts.
Prior to and during the tough months of training, each child keeps a diary of their innermost thoughts to share with the viewers. As the children read from their diaries, they are given a voice to confront their parents with their personal point-of-view of the situation, creating a very emotional eye opener and motivator for the parents.
