IPV Curator Tapeless Workflow System Enhancements To Showcase At NAB 2009

IPV, a leader and large independent supplier of low bit-rate, frame-accurate video technology to the broadcast and professional video sectors, will demonstrate the latest version of its Curator system at NAB, between April 20 - 23, 2009, at stand SU8510.
An affordable, proxy-based tapeless workflow environment running on both PC and Apple Mac platforms, the Curator system is designed to allow communities of media professionals to add value to their content and efficiently fulfil tasks such as desktop editing media annotation, review and approve and general media browsing.
It is a complete solution that can efficiently ingest, encode or transcode, at low bit, proxy SDI or file-based media, which can then be used concurrently by multiple users.
Whatever the source of the material, the Curator version is guaranteed to be frame accurate at all times giving an unprecedented desktop experience.
Recent enhancements to the Curator system being demonstrated at NAB include:
  • Capture third party externally generated event metadata such as logging systems for the live generation of sub-clips, complete with annotations, speeding up operations such as highlight package creation;
  • Ingest graphics and audio files and associated metadata into the Curator library for use within the Curator Media Desktop providing the browse viewer an enhanced rough-cut viewing experience of proxy material. Additional independent audio tracks allow for elements such as voiceovers and different language tracks to be created;
  • Provide a complete file-based workflow solution for integration with craft editing and conforming engines. Curator ensures that both the rough cut EDL and the correct high resolution file-based assets are transferred to the required craft editing system, whilst automating the process of file re-wrapping and EDL translation as required;
  • The addition of an IPV high resolution conform engine that enables projects and EDL's to be instantly published removing the need for a dedicated craft editor in applications such as late breaking news, sports and promo production.
Nigel Booth, Executive Vice President for Sales and Marketing at IPV, said: "The Curator system has enabled broadcasters around the world to provide a cost efficient means of sharing content in a file-based workflow environment. Customers can maximise on their business returns by reducing costs and increasing productivity."
Curator uses Windows Media 9 VC-1 format storage for its browse resolution content. This can be ingested directly from SDI video or transcoded from other file formats. Whatever the source of the material, the Curator version is guaranteed to be frame accurate at all time. Tool included in the system include shot change detection, closed caption overlays, handling of multiple audio tracks, speeding tasks such as scene by scene transcription, review and approval and metadata preparation.
Also on show at NAB will be IPV's SpectreView browse solution. Seen by many as the de factor standard for browse resolution systems, SpectreView is implemented by a large number of manufacturers of playout automation, newsrooms, asset management and access services.
Key to its success is the incorporation of precision timecode and frame accuracy. This coupled with its advanced streaming server ensures an unprecedented user experience providing a VTR-like performance at the desktop. Content can be encoded using a low bitrate codec - originally MPEG, now MPEG-4 and Windows Media 9 - and be accessed by multiple devices on standard computers, even when precise timecode control is critical.
