Carolina Melis Creates A World Of Caring Hands For NSPCC

Carolina Melis of Nexus Productions has designed and created a new and uplifting film for the NSPCC as part of an extensive Europe-wide campaign.

The film was commissioned by the Council of Europe through Saatchi and Saatchi to launch the campaign in Croatia earlier this month.

The film depicts a young boy in silhouette on a journey that takes him through a series of colourful and psychedelic landscapes that constantly morph from one scenario to another with the aid of large silhouetted hands. The hands appear in many different guises; as his path, a shelter from the rain, stairs for him to climb, fruit-bearing trees and as companions assisting him as he rides his bicycle. Finally, they throw him into the air, gently catching him as he falls, forming the shape of a loving heart around him.

Discouraging smacking and focusing on the positive role of hands in nurturing a child, the film's closing caption reads "Hands should nurture, not punish. Are your hands weapons of love?"

Carolina Melis added: "The idea was to approach the subject of anti-smacking from a positive angle encouraging viewers to consider the greatness of hands and to show, metaphorically, how great hands - therefore parents - support, nurse and play with their child.

"I was very pleased to be asked to work on this campaign and I really hope my contribution will help in supporting the cause."
