Chroma key specialist Reflecmedia has entered into partnership with Ultimatte Corporation of Chatsworth, California, to launch a new hardware keying solution for the Digital Video market.
These two renowned companies have collaborated since Siggraph 2004 to develop ‘Ultimatte DV’, which was shown for the first time at DV Expo West from December 8-10. Reflecmedia’s award-winning ChromaFlex and Chromatte solutions have transformed the art of chroma key, reducing the need for lighting, space and time. Their revolutionary approach to chroma key uses a camera-mounted LiteRing of either blue or green LEDs, which, together with the unique reflective fabric Chromatte, generates the even coloured background required for the technique. Ultimatte are a leading producer of hardware compositing systems, having received Oscar and Emmy awards for their products and work over the past 25 years. Ultimatte DV is the company’s first hardware solution aimed at the Digital Video market. The new product will go on sale in April 2005 and will feature functions and video connectivity to suit the DV user, with S-Video (Y/C) and Composite camera inputs, together with DV (Firewire, IEEE-1394) for both input of backgrounds and output of the composite. “Providing real time compositing solutions for the DV market is a natural step forward for Ultimatte”, said Lynne Sauve, Ultimatte President. “Reflecmedia’s products meet the needs of the DV user and as such the combination of both products offers a great solution for achieving high quality results at an achievable price.” Simon Westland, Managing Director of Reflecmedia, said: “We are delighted to work with Ultimatte on the launch of this exciting new product, such is the quality of their hardware that customers aspire to owning an Ultimatte and now they can achieve that goal with a unit specific to the DV market.” Shipping at NAB 2005, Ultimatte DV will be available in the US through Reflecmedia’s dealer network for $2,995.
